Humulin M 70/30 is a medication that contains an appropriate amount of premixed insulin. Premixed insulin is a blend of two types of insulin based on their functions: one is fast-acting insulin (regular insulin), and the other is intermediate-acting insulin (insulin NPH).
Humulin M is the primary medication prescribed to manage blood sugar levels in patients. Variations in blood sugar levels are a significant symptom of diabetes mellitus, a condition that results from the pancreas not functioning properly. In individuals with diabetes, the pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. Thus, Humulin M is administered to alleviate this condition. Humulin M is used to treat both forms of diabetes mellitus, including Type 1 (juvenile diabetes) and Type 2 (maturity-onset diabetes).
The recommended dosage of Humulin M for adults is 5x3 ml of Humulin M with a 30%/70% strength, taken at least half an hour before meals. The dosage should be adjusted based on the patient's response to the medication, under the guidance of a physician. Patients should consult their doctor at regular intervals of 3 to 4 weeks.
Contraindications: hypersensitivity, patients in diabetic coma, individuals experiencing hypoglycemia, and lactating women.
Side effects: constipation, severe rash, itching, chest tightness, nausea, anxiety, vision changes, dark urine, memory loss, tingling sensations, unusual fatigue, yellowing of the skin, sweating, weakness, and seizures.
